Reflection Journal #1

During my primary school years, I was always asked to study English solely for dictations. I would spend hours and hours memorizing sentences. I did get high scores on my dictations but thinking back, I did not learn much from doing that.

During my secondary school years, I did not do as many dictations. My English teacher tried to enforce active learning. He would try to use activities to help us learn vocabulary words and reading skills. He would let us discuss in groups.

I found that I learned most of my English from my secondary school teacher because I had the opportunities to apply the language.

This influenced the way I teach my lessons today. I always try to encourage students to acquire the language by organizing activities.
